The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event that was founded by Eleanor Lambert in 1946 and is currently spearheaded by Anna Wintour, reigning editor-in-chief of Vogue. The benefit takes place in New York City where attendees and designers show off their most elaborate designs in conjunction with the specific theme for the yearly fashion exhibition carefully curated by Wintour.

This year's theme seamlessly coincides with The Costume Institute's newest exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion." Approximately 250 items from the permanent collection will be displayed in a new way spanning across 400 years of fashion history, including designs by Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy.

The dress code was officially announced as "The Garden of Time," serving as an extension of the exhibition that will also be shaped around three main zones: Land, Sea, and Sky — a tribute to the natural world. "It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion," says Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of The Costume Institute.

Who is hosting the 2024 Met Gala?

In February, the iconic publication announced that Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Wintour will be the co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala. Creative Director of Loewe Jonathan Anderson and TikTok's CEO Shou Zi Chew will also serve as honorary chairs of the event.
