The Met Gala is fashion's biggest night of the year. Sorry, Oscars. So it's always a big deal when our friends at Vogue announce the theme for the following year's gala. This year's "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" exhibition inspired guests to embrace retro designs. For 2025, things are getting more streamlined with the first menswear-inspired theme in decades.
"Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" examines "the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora." (It's the first since 2003's "Men in Skirts" to focus on men's fashion.) Professor and Chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University Monica Miller will shine a spotlight on the figure of the Black dandy from the 18th century to modern-day instances up on the runways and on the big screen. The show is actually inspired by her 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
The 2025 Met Gala co-chairs were also announced. Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, naturally, will help bring the gala to life. LeBron James will also assist serving as honorary chair.
See how everything comes together at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5.
