A well-rounded fashion house has many levels. You have your clothes and accessories on one and frequently these days, a beauty department offering everything from makeup to skin care on another. Now more and more are going to the next level either by introducing or reinstating a fragrance category.
Take Stockholm-based fashion house Acne Studios, which is now getting into the perfume game. With a lot of help from master perfumer Frédéric Malle. Described as a "neoclassical perfume with an irreverent twist; vibrant yet comfortable; innocent yet magnetic," Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle is classified as a floral gourmand featuring an intoxicating blend of aldehydes, rose, peach, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. Hey, if it's got half the personality of Acne Studios Creative Director Johnny Johansson's designs, we'll be thrilled.
You'll have to wait a bit longer to try it out. The fresh fragrance doesn't drop until April 17 both online and in select stores across Europe and North America. Mark your calendar, though, because it'll probably sell out lightning fast.
So we have plenty of time to break down the other fragrance first-timers. Back in August of last year, eco-minded designer Gabriela Hearst announced her eponymous brand was delving into perfumes. It's a partnership with Fueguia 1833, marking the first time Fueguia 1833 has joined forces with a fashion designer. The result? Aromatic floral Paysandú and New York, a gourmand wood. Each fragrance costs $415.
Hot on her heels was Ann Demeulemeester. In September 2023, the brand revealed a new perfume. The legendary Belgian designer has actually been developing A Parfum for decades and perfected her concoction of Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon, Ceylon cinnamon, clove, cumin, jasmine, May rose, birch-oiled leather, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli and rosewood. You'll have to shell out $415 for the elegantly-designed bottle.
Although not technically considered a fashion house, footwear giant Steve Madden is also getting in on the aromatic action. The brand just declared that it will once again offer perfume in conjunction with Parlux. Kicking off its expansion is an upcoming woody floral perfume with notes of pear, bergamot and jasmine. The new endeavor will cost you just $78 and will be unveiled April 29. Which seems relatively reasonable as opposed to over $400.
As fragrance is already a packed arena, it'll be interesting to see how these new scents fare. Although we're betting that their fashion house affiliations will help drive sales.
