Fashion is going through a bit of a metamorphosis. In addition to a seemingly never-ending game of designer musical chairs, the traditional runway show is being flipped on its head. From favoring coed presentations to destination showcases all over the world for the resort season, things definitely aren't the way they used to be. Not that we're complaining, of course. Now Christian Dior is shaking things up by putting on a Pre-Fall 2024 runway show. That in itself isn't remarkable, but the fact that Dior dropped a lookbook of the collection back during the appropriate season is.
Last night at the Brooklyn Museum the lookbook came to life in grand fashion. The collection contains over 100 looks, but that's pretty much par for the course for Maria Grazia Chiuri. The show is a salute to both Paris and New York City, arguably the two biggest fashion capitals. There's a strong masculine-meets-feminine vibe throughout, which makes sense since it's inspired by one of designer Christian Dior's friends, Marlene Dietrich. Most of the clothes wouldn't look out of place in the 40s.
Dior loves a good runway road trip. Its last pre-fall collection presentation took place in Mumbai. After visiting Brooklyn, the French fashion house will next showcase its wares over in Scotland. (Just imagine the frequent flyer miles.) Perthshire's Drummond Castle Gardens, to be exact.
