Bridgerton has officially returned for a third season, and with it comes the resurgence of society's obsession with characters' outfits and clothing, most popularly known as "regencycore" or "cottagecore." The sartorial trend was first introduced in 2020, when the cult-favorite series took over through its impeccable display of juicy plots and elaborate costumes for all to take in. Four years later, the world is still obsessed, with Google searches for "Bridgerton style dresses" spiking by 110% to this day.
Although the trend is thought to have been birthed from the show, royal-inspired clothing dates back to 19th-century England, where the Regency, the high society of that era often donned grand clothing and costumes. Regencycore takes inspiration from this classic period and is marked by design principles like layering, whimsical silhouettes, and extreme ball skirts. Present-day, the aesthetic is reimagined through delicate pastels, lacy corsets, puff-sleeve frocks, and frilly dresses, as seen on some of fashion's biggest runways—Carolina Herrera and Brandon Maxwell included. Retailers like ASOS and Zara have even hopped on the trend, making regencycore easy to incorporate in our everyday wardrobes.
Ahead: shop the 10 best dresses that will help you tap into your regal side, without looking like you've stepped out in cosplay.
