Wearing chic pajama sets outside the bedroom is back, thanks to the 2024 Met Gala's sub-theme "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" which is based around the Costume Design Institute's new exhibition. Fashion's biggest red carpet event has already inspired us to add spring florals into our wardrobes (Miranda Priestly-approved of course), and now stylish sleepwear has been added to the list.
The pajama dressing trend reigned throughout 2016 and 2017 and throughout the years a host of celebrities and style stars— like designer Victoria Beckham above—have worked the look in a high-fashion way. In the '90s, Kate Moss and Jennifer Aniston often donned black and white slip dresses on the biggest red carpets while modern style trailblazers like Rihanna and Zendaya made pajama sets a night-out staple.
With the Gala now just hours away, we predict the trend will come back in full force. So, we rounded up some wardrobe inspiration from the best street-style moments at Fashion Week where slip dresses, robes, and elevated takes on pajama dressing ruled off the runway.
The Slip Dress
Style authority Tamu McPherson wore a monochromatic brown look for Gucci's fall/winter 2024 show that featured a slip minidress, the brand's signature Azalea Calfskin Horsebit 1955 shoulder bag, and orange flatforms.
Blogger Meeka Hossain wore a back-baring, champagne slip dress by Bevza with a burgundy croc shoulder bag by Bagllet while attending the brand's NYFW show.
The Pajama Shirt
During London Fashion Week, a guest poses in a silky orange shirt, flower print trousers and a green bag.
The Pajama Set
An edgy take on the conventional pajama set, a Fashion Week guest wore a fuschia cargo set outside Ermanno Scervino's spring/summer 2020 show.
The Robe
Outside the Ermanno Scervino show, a guest wears a tan robe with matching pants and a Saint Laurent chain bag.
The Slip Skirt
Street style star Gilda Ambrosio attended Nina Ricci's fall/winter 2018 show in an orange fur coat, yellow slip skirt, white Doc Martens, and a purple box bag.
