We're starting to see evidence of a major trend. No, it's not anything we spotted up on the Spring 2025 runways. It's apparently the new thing for a fashion house to announce a new designer while confirming that the current designer is leaving. Just look at how Celine handled Hedi Slimane's exit by simultaneously announcing Michael Rider is filling the vacant role. Now Missoni follows suit by revealing that Filippo Grazioli is stepping down as creative director after just over two years. (He just debuted the Italian label's Spring 2025 collection.) It appears the split is amicable, though.
"Today, I am stepping down as Missoni's Creative Director," the designer posted on his Instagram. "I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Missoni for this incredible experience. Thank you to everyone who supported my vision and allowed me to express my creativity. I am grateful to all those who have been involved in this journey. My deepest appreciation goes to my amazing team - you have been truly exceptional! Thank you for all the success we have achieved together. You will always be a part of me!"
Alberto Caliri is stepping in to fill the role. He's no stranger to Missoni, joining the brand back in 1998. In 2021, he returned to temporarily take over after Angela Missoni left. He only presented two collections. Since then, Caliri has worked on the brand's homeware lines. Since he already has a feel for the house, this shift may be more seamless than others.
We'll have to wait and see if there are any more designer shake-ups now that Fashion Month Spring 2025 is over.
