It's not uncommon for a fashion designer to simultaneously be at the helm of two fashion houses. Jeremy Scott managed to work for both Moschino and his eponymous brand for many years. Then there's the one and only Karl Lagerfeld who juggled three brands: Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld. Glenn Martens was also a member of this distinguished club, designing for both Diesel and Y/Project. Now the Belgian designer has one less thing on his plate since it was just announced that he's leaving Y/Project after 11 years.
Martens definitely introduced the French label to a whole new customer base. His edgy yet elegant creations appealed to a wide audience, including celebrities. It's probably part of the reason Italian brand Diesel recruited him for its creative director role.
Y/Project has experienced a lot of turmoil lately. It didn't show at Paris Fashion Week in February due to financial issues. Plus, both of the labels founders have passed away. Gilles Elalouf died back in June, while Yohan Serfaty died of cancer in 2013.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens, especially since Y/Project just canceled its Paris Fashion Week Spring 2025 show.
