There have been tons of designer moves lately. Some of the top fashion houses and the top designers have been engrossed in a seemingly never-ending came of musical chairs. Although John Galliano taking his final bow at Maison Margiela was a real surprise, especially since he managed to raise the profile of the haute couture staple as only the second designer to lead the storied brand. Now we know who the third designer will be after Maison Margiela officially announced that Glenn Martens will be taking over the lead role.
Martens recently departed Y/Project apparently due to the brand's ongoing financial issues. (The house actually shut down because it couldn't find a buyer.) Martens still had his position at Diesel where he, somewhat like Galliano, has managed to make the denim brand a fashion heavyweight. Plus, both Maison Margiela and Diesel are owned by OTB, which will certainly make the transition smoother. Martens will still head up Diesel as he adds this new haute couture appointment to his résumé.
No word yet on when Martens' debut Maison Margiela collection will be so stay tuned.
