Gucci is one of the most covetable fashion houses out there. That extends to the brand's bags, which are usually considered collector's items. Now the Italian label is celebrating 60 years in Japan by showcasing some of its most beautiful vintage-inspired bags.
Bamboo 1947: Then and Now features a wide range of Bamboo 1947 bags reimagined by Japanese traditional and contemporary artists. Painter Nami Yokoyama used her Neon series to create a truly eye-catching purse. Artist Ai Tokeshi relied on traditional Ryukyuan lacquering techniques to make his creation stand out from the fashionable crowd.
Several artists opted to put a twist on the classic bamboo handles and closures. Ceramist Hirotsune Nakazato relied on "meticulous" hand-building methods, while master goldsmith Morihito Katsura and his apprentice Naoko Ai crafted them from precious metals.
The exhibition will be on display at the Gucci Ginza Gallery until September 23.
