The New York Fashion Week Spring 2025 runway shows gave us plenty to look forward to. Like fanned-out tops and jackets, white dresses that are worthy of a walk down the aisle and handkerchief necklines. Brandon Maxwell, Aknvas and Maria McManus simply incorporate standalone handkerchiefs into outfits, while Rachel Comey's slip dress boasts a pointy bib up front. Turns out, handkerchief accents are already decorating more than necklines. They're also being used to enhance waistlines and hemlines.
Consider it the natural evolution of the let's attach scarves to everything craze arguably instigated by TOTEME. (FYI: TOTEME enters this new category with a draped off-white sweater.) Ferragamo's striped blouse is layered to perfection. Proenza Schouler creates a faux handkerchief effect with a striped panel top. Super YAYA's crisp white shirt has ties up top and at the waist.
Speaking of waists, we'd be remiss if we didn't point out Zara's stunning satin wrap dress. Retrofête designed a similar silhouette in the form of a two-tone jumpsuit. So-called scarf and bandana tops have traveled all the way from the early aughts to take over 2025. Which we're totally fine with, BTW.
Handkerchief hems are also on the sartorial seasonal menu. Both skirts and dresses are getting involved. See Ferragamo's blossom print midi skirt, JW Anderson's asymmetric striped skirt, Moschino's layered poplin creation and Pucci's colorful contribution. When it comes to dresses, L'AGENCE's halter midi dress is the clear standout. As if all this isn't enough, there's even a swimsuit and a bag that meet our criteria.
