There was once a time when wearing two denim pieces at the same time was a ginormous no-no. Now, double denim is celebrated. Even triple denim is appreciated. But we're going another route for winter. We're planning on sporting leather sets straight through March.
Thankfully, there are many sets to choose from. They're not all black, either. Olive, ivory, plum, brown and bluish green are all available. The increasing variety is mainly due to designers amping up production of leather pairings. Bottega Veneta doubles up quite frequently, which we're totally fine with. The Row offers a set that is right in line with its quiet luxury mantra. Altuzarra's colorful suit has workwear written all over it. Leave it to Jean Paul Gaultier to supply a dark brown bustier and pants combo.
Naturally, the designer pieces cost beaucoup bucks. There are alternatives, however. A lot depends on whether you want real or faux leather. Mango's actual leather teammates cost a couple of hundred dollars apiece. (Although that's still cheaper than a couple of thousand designer dollars.) Eloquii has a sleek suit that's relatively inexpensive. And Zara's strapless dress and faux leather pants pairing is practically a steal.
One word of caution. Stick to two leather pieces per outfit. You don't want to cross over into biker territory. Feel free to mix and match shades, though. Of course, both shoes and bags don't count toward your grand total.
Scroll down to discover the most stylish leather sets of the season. These are definitely investment pieces so pace yourself. Start off by only purchasing one set. You can always add more as winter crawls along.
