The maxi skirt is a bit of an anomaly. There's no consensus on which season it fits into. A skirt that goes down to the ankles and sometimes even farther seems better suited to fall. Or maybe even winter if it wasn't for those slushy, salt-stained streets. The silhouette doesn't seem to belong to summer, either. Especially when it's this hot.
Despite the unbearable temps, now is the right time to invest in a maxi or two. Of course, not any ol' one will do. It's important to look for skirts that feature some form of ventilation. Like strategically-placed slits on the sides, the front or the back. Sheer sections help keep things looking and feeling cool. Material matters, too. Linen, silk and cotton are seasonal necessities.
Scroll down to discover the best maxi skirts of the summer. Some are designed to be worn on their own, others offer coordinating toppers. There are no hard-and-fast rules that govern how to wear a maxi skirt so anything goes.
