You may not know the name Melitta Baumeister now, but everyone's about to know who the up-and-coming German designer is. That's because she just won the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. In addition to the prestige, the honor comes with a $300,000 grant and a year-long mentorship with an industry leader.
Baumeister graduated from Parsons in 2013 and launched her namesake label right after. She mainly focuses on sculptural clothing. She's prone to exaggeration and often relies on unique materials along with experimental techniques. Baumeister's Spring 2024 collection expertly demonstrates these ideals.
Rachel Scott of Diotima and Henry Zankov of ZANKOV are the runners-up. Each will receive $100,000 plus business mentorships.
