Spring hasn't gotten off to a really good start. In some places, it still feels like winter. Which means plants and flowers haven't been popping up yet. Heck, the buds are still MIA. Instead of picking all-over motifs, we're favoring negative space floral prints and, thankfully, there's a wealth of pieces to choose from.
The trend is like your go-to negative space manicures where the art doesn't cover the entire nail. In this instance that usually means featuring only a single bloom or a couple of flowers. Frequently, the florals are more abstract in nature, often appearing like they stepped right out of a watercolor painting. The phenomenon can be found on seasonal staples, like strapless dresses, tops and skirts, and even bags.
While designers (Issey Miyake, Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney) definitely have a hand in introducing the trend, you don't have to spend a lot to get in on the action. Zara's satin-effect blouse is office-appropriate and only $45.90. Then there's & Other Stories' layered, ankle-grazing dress priced at $189.
