The idea of having celebrities serve as models in brand campaigns is nothing new in fashion. More and more stars are becoming brand ambassadors, but there's one fashion house that's taken a different approach to advertising: Prada. With Willy Vanderperre behind the lens, the luxury house released its Fall 2024 campaign that explores a more relatable side of fashion through "honest human interaction" and "the exchange of ideas."
Apart from the display of captivating pieces like sleek double-breasted suits, vivid knits and highly-coveted leather bags, the ads feature a refreshing mix of some of today's most powerful Hollywood stars, including Damson Idris, Harris Dickinson, Yili Ma, Letitia Wright and Hunter Schafer. The group is captured in conversation both face to face and on the phone speaking from a script by artist Miranda July, whose work focuses on discussion and language. They're also seen in a short film from Oscar-nominated director Garrett Bradley with the song "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)" by Irma Thomas playing in the background.
In an effort to bring fashion back to its original and authentic purpose as a form of language, Prada drew inspiration from different film eras, narrative cinema and documentary-style filming. "The campaign extends into reality, not just observing but instigating dialogue as action: sets of conversation cards, written by Miranda July, propose topics to discuss among friends," the brand states. "In both images and film, these conversations are tantalizingly out of reach – seen, sometimes partially heard, they invite revelation in the imagining of their entirety."
