The spring, fall and haute couture collections get the most love and the most time in the spotlight. But fashion has much more to offer. You shouldn't sleep on the resort or pre-fall offerings because they often supply some of the top looks of the year. Take the Pre-Fall 2024 collections, which are full of finds that can go head-to-head with anything sashaying down a runway.
Most of the looks are presented in lookbook form. Not that we're complaining, of course. Sometimes still images show off clothing better anyway. Although big brands like Chanel still stage over-the-top runway shows in interesting locales. (This time the French fashion house presented its wares in Manchester, England.)
Regardless, this off season really embraces denim. Matching printed pieces, triple denim ensembles and even jean accents are all represented. And not just from the usual suspects. Erdem, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Balmain all jumped on the jean bandwagon.
That isn't the only trend, however. Fall florals are literally everywhere. Erdem, Carolina Herrera, PH5, Stine Goya and Valentino are only a handful of the brands boasting blooms. Strategically-placed cut-outs also prove popular with Valentino leading the way as its gray coat features an ornate design on the back and plenty of skin.
Valentino isn't alone in offering statement outerwear. Antonio Marras serves up several striking coats with interesting details. Like an open-back, fringe-accented leather jacket. Stine Goya's red-orange creation is highlighted by a floating metal oval. Helmut Lang's coverup has split sleeves, while Isabel Marant has decided to keep the quilted craze going.
Skirt suits clearly haven't loss their mass appeal. Designers are getting a little creative this time around and reimagining what the sets look like. Take Roberto Cavalli where skirt suits got a Western upgrade with colorful embroidery. (The hats didn't hurt, either.) Givenchy's red hot pairing is styled to perfection with a patterned blouse poking out in a couple places. Lanvin's is more traditional including a tailored blazer and coordinating pleated skirt. Victoria Beckham went the mini route teaming a super short olive skirt with a matching cropped jacket.
Award season is coming up and we would like to make a case for stars selecting their red carpet gowns from these collections. We're secretly hoping someone will opt to rock Balmain's fantastic flamingo dress. Diesel's textured tank dress is definitely red carpet-worthy. Erdem's plunging gown keeps the rosette theme going. Carolina Herrera's watercolor ruffled dress is a prime pick for anyone looking to flaunt a lot of leg and Alberta Ferretti's flowing one-sleeve number really brings the drama. Valentino's pair of sparkling gowns have award show written all over them. But perhaps no collection is as rife with glamorous gowns as Reem Acra. From a red ruffled creation to an 80s-style golden minidress, there are enough sparkling silhouettes to outfit an entire cast.
