We all know the adage that you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day. Which is ridiculous in this day and age since that would prevent us from wearing white sweaters, heavy coats, etc. Actually, the hue and all its offshoot shades are quite prevalent in the colder months. Blame it on trying to coordinate with all the snow on the ground. That's why there are so many winter white staples to choose from right now.
Not that we're complaining. There's something so seasonal about rocking head-to-toe white or sporting a single stark item of clothing. And we're not just talking about the holidays. These pieces will work for the rest of winter. Heck, maybe even early spring.
Just to be clear, there's more than one shade of white. Off-white, ivory, porcelain and ecru are only a small handful. When it comes to wearing white all over, you can stick with the same exact shade or incorporate varying tones into one outfit. (Some of our favorites offer coordinating items so matching is pretty easy-peasy.) We've put together a definitive list of cold-weather must-haves. There are nifty knits, boldly structured button-downs, jeans and jean skirts, turtlenecks, dresses and one striking coat.
There's a good mix of designer luxuries and affordable alternatives. If you're all about going matchy-matchy, then try to mix the occasional fashion house find with several low-price pieces. Just make sure your designer selection is one you plan on flaunting for years to come so it will basically pay for itself. We purposely skipped accessories since we're betting you already have a pair or two of white shoes and several stark bags in your repertoire. Of course, you can wear all white except for your accessories and use them to add a concentrated pop of another color.
